Kashmir is burning yet again and this is becoming a trend for the last three years. The cry for self rule and self determination has again propagated. Being a Kashmiri myself, it hurts when my homeland bleeds and probably that me search for some articles related to Kashmir on net, article that would give some figurative information about the damages we Indians are suffering from being a administrator of Kashmir and an article that would give some possible solution to the Kashmir crisis. The quest ends with an article by Bhaskar Sarkar on the portal merinews.com. I am posting the link to this article as it tunes with some of my sentiments as well.
Bhaskar has tried to encapsulate the thoughts in a very effective manner but two important points that need a lot of focus remain unanswered.
Point 1: The article doesnot answer anything about the status of Kashmiri Hindus- the Pandits. How to take the case of Kashmiri Pandits when Kashmiri Pandits were the real inhabitants of Kashmir. Although the article definitely refers to the plight of Kashmiri Pandits but nowhere in the solution has been mentioned about the place for Kashmiri Pandits. Yes Jammu will be an independent state with majority Hindus but what about the business that Hindus still own, the shrines that Hindus still revere and the land that Hindus still worship in Kashmir. History has it that Kashmir was rehabilitated by Rishi Kashyap and was supposed to be a Hindu KIngdom but doom stuck and Islam dominated in no time may be by forced conversions or by will.
Point 2: What will happen to the morale of our security forces if even a single inch of land is given as a result of the solution. How are we Indians going to pay obeisance to the millions of lives who sacrificed their life, their safety, their family, their comfort to safeguard Kashmir for the last 40 years. Wont this be a shame for us by giving up the fight. Wont this demoralise our nation and we would be labelled as having no strength at all. Wont this send a wrong signal to the world about our intergrity.
These two points remain a big showstopper and whenever any novel solution is devised the points need to be addressed first. The solution that Bhaskar has given may be extrpolated to something wherein we include a homeland for Kashmiri Hindus and probably give out Poonch in that place. Although this still fails to address the second point discussed above.
